How to Access SIL Services

01NDIS Eligibility Check

Checking your eligibility for NDIS is the first step. Make sure that you are eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. You are only eligible if you have high support needs which are causing obstacles in your daily lives and you require daily or overnight assistance at home.

What is SIL and who is eligible?

SIL support is a daily living support that is provided to people with disabilities. It helps them to live more independently at home by providing them assistance with daily tasks. This may include personal care, cooking, cleaning, and much more. To be eligible for Supported Independent Living (SIL), you must have a significant or permanent disability and SIL funding should be included in your plan.

What support does SIL include?

SIL covers all the daily living chores such as cooking, cleaning, meal preparation, personal hygiene, medication, keeping your house clean, and developing independent living skills. If anyone is in need of overnight assistance, SIL covers that too. The main goal is to help participants feel safe, supported, and included in the society.

How is SIL funded under NDIS?

NDIS Core Supports budget funds Supported Independent Living. The level of SIL funding depends on individual needs as everyone has unique needs and circumstances. During your NDIS planning process, all your needs are fully assessed which ensures that you get the right level of support tailored to your needs.

Can I choose my housemates?

Absolutely. In most cases, you have full authority to choose your housemates. Having the right group of people in your home setting ensures that the atmosphere is positive and supportive. The providers which you opt for work closely with you to find compatible housemates so that everyone feels safe and supported.

Do I get to pick where I live?

Yes, you are free to choose wherever you want to live. Although SIL providers can recommend various housing options, the last decision is always yours. With the help of NDIS support, you can select a home and community that suits your needs and preferences.
